ESCRITA DE MULHERES - CONFERÊNCIA (working title) is a lecture-performance based on A Room of One’s Own (1929) by Virginia Woolf, proposing a reflection on what it means to be a woman and on the conditions necessary for artistic creation.
In her text, Virginia Woolf starts from the premise that “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write,” highlighting the need for material, psychological, and social autonomy in order to create artistically. Throughout this lecture-performance, the anachronism between Woolf’s time and our present day is revealed.
ESCRITA DE MULHERES invites the audience to reassess the persistence of the challenges faced by women and to question the risks of regression, particularly through forms of cancellation that limit free speech and reflection on complex issues.
This lecture will be presented at Biblioteca Camões in Lisboa.
